So, you love fashion and would like to try out a corduroy blazer or a jacket. The question is: can you pull it off? Don't run away in panic, but this is not for everybody to wear. Read this article to find out if you are among those that can strut around in a corduroy suit.
Most people, including me connect corduroy
with a more relaxed style. A corduroy is laid a back, smart suit, but for what
occasion? Whether you are wearing a Stacy Adams suit or another brand,
knowing how and when to get that corduroy out of the closet and when to avoid
it is a skill unto itself.
Where (and who) Can
Wear it?
Here
are a many places where you might find someone wearing a corduroy blazer
(or find yourself wearing it):
·
At the
Psychiatrist's office
A corduroy suit doesn't look intimidating
and can in fact aid in relaxing the patient somewhat. It will give out a
positive first impression of the psychiatrist as someone you want to share all
your fears and secrets too.
·
At the
horse races
A corduroy suit is often connected with a
more country style, so seeing it at the Races is certainly not far-fetched.
Just look around yourself and you'll see a lot of people sporting corduroy
jackets.
·
In Court
Wearing a corduroy suit in court can be a
good way to mellow the judge a little and have him more understandable toward
your case. Of course, don't expect to walk free simply because you're wearing
corduroy
·
In an
office
The dress code in many countries has
shifted from strictly business-like with black suits and white shirts, with
neckties, to a more casual one. The beauty of a corduroy suit is that it can
be split, so you can just wear a jacket with some other pants.
Here is Where You
Don't Want to See a Corduroy Blazer
Of course, there are a couple of places
where corduroy jackets are simply not acceptable for a number of
reasons. Mostly, these are the occasions in which a corduroy suit can give out
a very bad impression:
·
At a job
interview
Unless you want to appear disinterested in
a job, my recommendation is to wear something “sharper” than corduroy for your
job interview. You want to give out the best first impression and corduroy
suits are not the way to go.
·
As a
lawyer
As a lawyer, you don't want your client to
see you in a corduroy suit in a court or in your office. It just doesn't
spell “professionalism”.
·
At a
wedding
Do you hate the bride and groom? If not,
don't appear at their wedding in a corduroy suit. Save that for when you visit
them at home.
